What Does NPK Value Mean?

The NPK value indicates what the amount in mass percentage is of the three major components in plant nutrients:

  • The N stands for nitrogen. Nitrogen is necessary for the growth of a plant.
  • The P stands for phosphorus. Phosphorus promotes the formation of roots and development of buds and flowers.
  • The K stands for potassium. Potassium ensures a strong plant, improves the resistance and protects the plant from possible infections.
The NPK value of for example Dutch Pro Hydro/Coco Bloom is 5-2-6, which means that it contains 5% nitrogen, 2% of phosphorus and 6% potassium.
